Do you want to know why there are so many kids who don’t give a shit about their education? Why there are so many kids who would rather spend their time smoking weed than opening a book? It’s because public schools do not give a shit about them. Today I went to school to check out a textbook for my online course, to learn and get ahead in school during the summer. They, the assistant principals, told me that I have no right to check out a textbook because it’s against protocol. Basically, these textbooks, which our parents pay for with their hard earned money, cannot be used unless the students are in school and the school can make money. This leads me to believe that public school have strayed from their original purpose, to make sure education is available to all, and are now a money making machine. I, a student who wishes to learn, should not be denied my right to education. Sure I can go buy or rent a textbook, but why should I when public schools are suppose to be giving me the tools to become successful? What is the purpose of public schools if I have to spend more money than I already have to get an education? Public schools are no longer schools for the public but another moneymaking business.
